“Change” in the Holyoke Political Landscape

September 1, 2008

So I was browsing through Google News a few minutes ago, and came across an article in the Washington Post about how the GOP Presidential Candidates are putting the accent on “change’ reworking their campaign message.

We have been through Deval Patricks “Together We Can” and this was the result of his “Change” for Holyoke.
Cut from the Budget
$2 million for Holyoke Medical Center, which provides training for nurses and other health professionals through affiliations with colleges
$50,000 for Girls Incorporated of Holyoke
$250,000 for the New England Farm Workers Council in Holyoke
$428,674 for Holyoke Community College
$35,000 for the Holyoke Creative Arts Center
$150,000 for the World is Our Classroom, which serves Chicopee, Greenfield, Holyoke and Westfield
$50,000 for a merry-go-around at Heritage State Park in Holyoke
Let me add, the state legislature did override alot of these cuts.
and if Barack Obama running as the Democratic Presidential Nominee on a platform of “Change” with a slogan of “Yes We Can” (See the similarity). One can only wonder what is in store for the economy in the future of the USA.

So now that Mayor Sullivan has announced he is not seeking re-election
I hope the next Mayoral candidate uses the campaign message of “Action”, I think we as a city and a country have had enough “Change” for a long time.

While I am all for change and a most of the time liberal.. I have to admit you make a very good point. The idea of our next mayor running on a platform of Action gets me revved up. Holyoke has not seen a lot of action lately.. just a lot of foreplay. -smirk-
